The 1962–63 British Football League was the fifth season of the British Football League after the British Football Association declared on creating the league to unite the country in a football league. The same sixteen teams that competed in the previous season would compete in this season.

The season would go down to the final match-day where Rangers lead Tottenham Hotspur by one point. After Tottenham won their final match of the season against Middlesbrough, a late 85th minute goal from John Hughes for Celtic meant that Tottenham would win by goal difference over Rangers as they both teams scored the same amount of points.
