Main article: 1958 FIFA World Cup qualification

28 teams competed in the EFU qualifying for 8 spots in the tournament. The teams were separated into eight groups with four groups of four teams and four groups of three teams. The winner of each group would qualify through to the 1958 FIFA World Cup.
