The 1949 South American Championship was the fourteenth edition of the South America Championship. It was held in the country of Brazil for the fourth time after hosting it last in 1925.

The final round saw Paraguay take out their first South American Championship after ending up on nine points which were one point higher than second place and host nation Brazil.
